Locally, the Aberdeen Lions Club works closely with the Aberdeen based South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. It puts on special events for the students on a regular basis and often provides funding for needed items and projects.
Lionism has a proud heritage of service that dates to 1917. Service in a Lions club is aimed at improving life in individual communities and in the world as a whole. Lions clubs heeded a call by Helen Keller at an early national convention to help the blind and visually impaired. A major component is the international service commitment to SightFirst: Lions Conquering Blindness.
